Publication agenda of Book Unveiling Diverse Cultural Heritages of Otherness

We are receiving many chapter proposals from colleagues in Europe, the United States, Brazil, Africa and New Zealand, in what seems to emerge as a sort of ‘planetary team’. We really appreciate all these awesome contributions!

I am writing this reminder just to kindly recall you that the deadline for submitting the book abstracts is October 31st (see Annex 1). However, as this academic ‘rentrée’ has been very intense and busy for many of us, if you need a few more days, we can postpone the abstract deadline to November 15, 2024.

Please note that for writing the complete text, you’ll have the next 6 months: in fact, the deadline for delivery by authors of the formatted texts’ final version is going until April 24, 2025.

2. Substantive book content.

I also would like to emphasize the following, as one author sent us this doubt: as indicated in the call for chapters, this is not a book whose main subject is the Ukrainian crisis, which is intended to constitute just one of the most striking global contexts for the present debate. The core subject here is the crisis and the alternatives on urban arts cultural heritage, associated with some prominent  and related social processes, such as the use of media arts communication for coping with cultural and political phenomena, globally and locally pertinent for that central problematics, e.g. cultural tourism.

Even more concretely, each author proposition may focus just on one book part, more or less dialoguing with the coherence of the whole project.

3. A new Observatory at Lisbon, within Social Web Lab.

Recently, I am also directing an Observatory on urban heritage, media arts and cultural tourism, that is being developed in the research centres I am affiliated inside universities at the cities of Porto and Braga, and as well at Social Web Lab, a research and cultural space I am also coordinating at Lisbon.

The goal at Social Web Lab is to develop scientific, technological and artistic projects or simply friendship projects, through meetings of enthusiasts, gatherings, conferences, seminars, book launches, art exhibitions, etc. You are welcome to visit us, if you pass by Lisbon (see photos annexed below):
